Killer Version of "Killing Me Softly" Unearthed!

We acknowledge UK newspaper The Telegraph as source in this piece. A demo tape has surfaced of Susan singing "Killing Me Softly". She recorded this as a demo track with a view to sending it to record producers, and to local and national TV and radio talent competitions including Michael Barrymore's My Kind of People, for which she later auditioned but was rejected.

The recording was made at her own expense with Miss Boyle telling friends at the time that she had "spent all her savings" on it.

Clad in a leather jacket and bold patterned dress, Susan Boyle, returning from her hairdresser, said of her appearance on TV: "I will need to sort out my dress sense and my weight. It wasn't until I saw myself on TV that I realized how frumpy I was."

"It's not a big thing, it doesn't worry me too much, but I will be doing a bit more exercise to help me sort it out."

"When there is this much attention on you, you have to plan what you wear every day and look your best." "I just want to look nice and smart."

Susan Boyle is one of these phenomena that holler out for alliteration, so let's do her full justice:

Surprising Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle bowls 'em over!

UK TV amateur talent show, Britain's Got Talent, has proved its title to be correct in its latest 'finding', a 47 years old, unemployed, unfashionable, unsophisticated, unglamorous, unknown underdog spinster from the small village of Blackburn in Scotland, who gushed before a disparaging theater audience, panel of judges including American Idol's constant critic Simon Cowell, and the entire television viewing public that she's "never been kissed!"

To say it was uncomfortable start to Susan's performance, is to understate as wildly as this homely woman's entrance suggested what might follow. The audience sneered. The judging panel sneered. But, Susan faced it all with apparent confidence, which only served to make them sneer more. It looked like we were in for the biggest, most brutal kill in televisual history. Until she opened her mouth to sing!

Instantly, jeers turned to cheers. The audience rose heavenward in sync with her angelic tone. The panel's deadly derision was now abject admiration. A haunting reality filled the theater and the airwaves with the ancient adage of never judge a book by its cover. Susan Boyle had bowled 'em over!

Internet giant YouTube's website, by proxy, had found its newest, unlikeliest superstar, too. Before the week was through, some 20+ millions of clicks worldwide on Susan's video performance had voted her not only a UK national winner in the making, but an international one.

Whether showbiz gurus and media pressure force a complete makeover on her remains to be seen. Somehow I think much of her charm that catapulted her into global recognition and awe would be lost given a thorough cosmetic transformation. That said, the golden vocals, that they cannot change.
